The Wake Up Call

Men's healthcare adoption in the UK: what we need to know to make a difference.

Men's health issues are often hidden in plain sight. Stress, silent symptoms, ignored warning signs and the pressure to "just get on with it" mean many men delay seeking help until something forces them to stop. Our latest research reveals that two thirds of working men have experienced a health related wake up call, yet many still struggle to prioritise their own wellbeing.

Benenden Health's 'The Wake Up Call' campaign explores the reality of men's health today; what prompts men to take action, why they often don't, and how employers can create a culture where men feel supported to look after their physical and mental health.

We surveyed 2,000 working men aged 30–55 to understand their attitudes, behaviours and experiences around health, at home and at work. We also surveyed 250 HR decision makers in companies with 20+ employees, to understand employer support for men’s health in the workplace and identify spaces for improvement.
