Find out how healthy you are
If you want to better understand your health, booking a Benenden Health Assessment might be a good idea. Here’s why.
Why should I have an assessment?
A health review can help you to check all kinds of ways in which your body is working. Benenden offers a range of comprehensive health assessments whereby a highly qualified team of GPs and health assessment nurses will review your health, and offer practical advice on how you can make changes to help reduce your risk of developing common and often preventable conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease. Many people want a health assessment for reassurance, even if they’re not feeling unwell. It can help to allay any concerns about potential health issues, such as hereditary conditions that you need to be aware of.
What kinds of things will I be tested for?
There are five levels of assessment and you can choose which best suits your needs. For example, an Essential assessment involves a medical and lifestyle questionnaire, a guide to healthy living, a dietary assessment, a personalised medical report and recommendation, and a lifestyle consultation with a nurse or healthcare professional. It also involves measuring blood pressure, BMI, body composition, and cholesterol and diabetes risk via blood tests. With this level of assessment, you would be given your cardiovascular risk score, a urine analysis and osteoporosis risk assessment. If you’re a woman, your health professional will discuss breast cancer awareness.
At the other end of the scale, an Advanced Plus assessment would include a more detailed approach, including such tests as bowel cancer screening, an ECG, liver and kidney function blood tests, and much more.
How long does it take?
The assessments take between 45 minutes and three hours depending on the level of assessment you opt for. Watch this video to see how an Advanced assessment works.
What happens when I get the results?
With an Essential assessment, the feedback will be on the day, but for the other four levels of assessment, you will also receive a written health report after 10 days. If anything is flagged, this will help you know what to speak about with your GP.
Where can I have it done?
There are hospitals all over the country that offer the assessments.
How much does it cost?
The assessments range from £99 upwards. Benenden members can save between £33 and £150 on the cost of an assessment compared to the standard rates, depending on the level you choose. See the full breakdown here and you can book online or by calling 0800 414 8486.
