Wherever you are heading for your holidays, don't forget to pack some handy first-aid supplies. “A basic first-aid kit is an essential when going on holiday,” says Boots pharmacist Angela Chalmers. “It should contain as a minimum: assorted plasters, antiseptic wipes, adhesive wound dressings and antiseptic cream. Ask your pharmacist if you are unsure.”

Other useful items include:

  • sunscreen
  • aftersun
  • sunglasses
  • sun hat
  • insect repellent
  • painkillers
  • antihistamine cream and/or tablets
  • anti-diarrhoea tablets
  • rehydration sachets
  • antibacterial hand wipes and/or gel
  • travel sickness remedy
  • earplugs for swimming
  • condoms
