The World Health Organisation classified the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak as a worldwide Pandemic, and this has become a ‘known event’ for many insurers. In line with the policy terms and conditions, Benenden Travel Insurance categorised the Coronavirus (COVID-19) as a “Known Event” from 13th March 2020.
Coronavirus related claims will be considered for any element of travel booked before 13th March, subject to the policy conditions and Foreign and Commonwealth Office guidance. Any element of your trip booked on or after this date will not qualify for coronavirus related claims.
New policies purchased from 5 August 2020 now cover cancellation, curtailment and emergency medical expenses incurred as a result of being medically diagnosed with the Coronavirus or COVID-19.
If you have an annual policy that renewed between 13 March and 4 August, and your policy includes the Coronavirus general exclusion (exclusion 36 in your policy wording booklet) we’ll now cover cancellation, curtailment and emergency medical expenses incurred as a result of being medically diagnosed with the Coronavirus or COVID-19.
