Benenden member’s campaign hits the headlines
A fundraising campaign started by Benenden member Martin Turner and his wife Linda has received national attention. The couple is raising money to send their 16-year-old daughter, Kelly, to the US for cancer treatment.
The Turners have appeared in the Daily Mail, Daily Express and their local paper, the Dover Express, to appeal for funds to allow 16-year-old Kelly to have life-saving surgery in New York or Memphis.
Martin launched the campaign after learning that chemotherapy had failed to control Kelly’s desmoplastic small round cell tumours.
Martin, a UK Border Force employee and local radio DJ, said: “Our beautiful, clever, artistic and loving daughter Kelly is only 16. Up to October 2015 she was fit and well, and enjoying a happy, fulfilling life. “She’s been well cared for by The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust but because there are tumours close to her liver they’re not prepared to carry out surgery”.
Since the appeal began the family has raised more than £73,000 towards Kelly’s treatment but hope publicity will help them reach their target of £1,000,000.
