Get ready for ‘Time to Talk Day’ 2017

It’s good to talk, but many people with a mental health problem find it hard to open up. Learn how ‘Time to Talk Day’ aims to change that.

‘Time to Talk Day’ takes place on Thursday 2nd February and aims to bring the nation together to get talking and break the silence around mental health problems.

Although one in four of us has a mental health problem – whether depression, anxiety, bipolar or a disorder – many people are still afraid to talk about it, says charity Time to Talk.

For people with a mental health problem, being unable to talk about it can be one of the worst parts of the illness. To address this, Time to Talk hopes that getting people talking about mental health can break down stereotypes, improve relationships, help recovery and take the stigma out of a health issue that can affect us all.


Since ‘Time to Talk Day’ launched in 2014, the charity says it has sparked millions of conversations in schools, homes, workplaces, the media and online. “People have felt able to share their experiences and, after that first conversation, people feel more comfortable talking about mental health and are more likely to talk about it again – that one chat can have a huge impact,” says the charity.
