£45 million redevelopment contract agreed for benenden hospital

It is all systems go for a £45 million redevelopment of benenden hospital – now that a contract for the work has been signed.
Contractors Willmott Dixon Construction Limited will be undertaking the multi-million pound project which will transform benenden hospital into a state-of-the-art hospital poised to meet the future’s changing healthcare needs.
Works are due to begin on site on 27 May.
The contract is between Willmott Dixon Construction Limited and benenden health, who own the benenden hospital site. benenden hospital is the group’s flagship hospital, which welcomes benenden health members, NHS Choose and Book patients and private patients. benenden hospital is at Cranbrook, Kent.
The redevelopment will transform benenden hospital into a leading centre for health and wellbeing. It will result in single bedrooms throughout, a new main entrance with adjacent car park and drop off area, a glass roofed reception area providing patients and visitors with a relaxation area and class leading catering facilities, scanning and diagnostic imaging all under one roof, an expansion of the outpatient area, modernisation of theatres, a new endoscopy unit and considerable refurbishment throughout.
benenden hospital director Jane Abbott said: “This is a huge investment in the hospital and a major milestone in the hospital’s 107 year history. We are very excited to be going forward with these plans.”
Graham Hadfield, chair of the hospital’s board of governors, welcomed the development. He said: “"The start of this extensive redevelopment is a real turning point. It not only secures the hospital's long term future but also gives it the opportunity to become what we want it to be - the hospital of choice."
Marc Bell, chief executive at benenden health, signed the contract together with benenden health’s group finance director Giles Webster. Marc said: “With the commencement of this major new investment in benenden hospital, we begin a new chapter in our long history of providing high quality patient care to our mutual community. When the re-development is complete, benenden hospital trust will be in pole position to become a leading centre for health and wellbeing in the UK.
“benenden hospital has been long-proud of delivering first class healthcare services and that delivery will now be safeguarded for future generations of patients. I’m very much looking forward to seeing the work.”
Willmott Dixon were also celebrating the completion of negotiations. The works are due to be complete by December 2016.
