Benenden’s Northern Ireland Membership on the increase
2nd November 2015
Benenden Personal Healthcare, one of the UK’s oldest healthcare products and operated as a mutual fund by health & wellbeing provider Benenden, has seen a rise in membership in Northern Ireland of nearly 1,500 people inside the last three months.
Bel Dowson, Provider Relationship Manager for Benenden, said the increase was unprecedented and underlined a growing concern among local patients about lengthening NHS waiting lists.
“People are very worried about their ability to access healthcare and that is the bottom line,” she said. “We now have 53,500 members in Northern Ireland who are able to avail of affordable, discretionary healthcare services that complement rather than replace the care offered by the NHS.”
For £9.10 per person, per month, members of Benenden Personal Healthcare can request a range of healthcare services, with no exclusions for pre-existing medical conditions or upper age restrictions.
Benenden, a not-for-profit friendly society and a five-time winner of ‘Most Trusted’ healthcare provider at the 2011-2015 Moneywise Customer Service Awards, has also tripled the number of operations which are available to local members.
“We can now offer Benenden Personal Healthcare members a choice of 21 treatments, including orthopaedic, general surgery, gynaecology, urology and ENT procedures,” said Mark Regan, Chief Executive of Kingsbridge Private Hospital, part of the 3fivetwo Group and a Benenden partner.
“This boost represents a vote of confidence from Benenden in Kingsbridge’s first class medical and clinical facilities, as well as an opportunity for us to continue playing our part in helping reduce pressure on NHS services in Northern Ireland.
“It’s to the benefit of the whole healthcare sector that major issues such as the excessive waiting times currently being experienced across Northern Ireland are tackled and resolved effectively.”
Benenden covers a membership of over 900,000 across the United Kingdom through its personal healthcare product, and during 2014 helped in the region of 95,000 members with their healthcare needs. This discretionary healthcare product has no upper age limit or medical exclusions.
