Benenden Healthcare named as finalists in major IT awards
12th September 2011
A close-knit team of IT staff from the mutual, not-for-profit Benenden Healthcare Society, are today celebrating their status as finalists for ‘IT Department of the Year’ in the BCS & Computing UK IT Industry Awards 2011.
Benenden Healthcare joins McDonalds and the Royal Shakespeare Company in this blue riband category of the yearly awards, organised by The Chartered Institute for IT in association with Computing Magazine.
Gareth Baxendale, Head of IT at Benenden Healthcare, said:
‘The whole IT and projects team at Benenden Healthcare is absolutely elated to have been listed as finalists for this award.
‘Early last year, the IT function went through a period of significant change by way of a restructure and the adoption of a new IT Programmes department. The team is very proud of what it has accomplished so far since then.
‘We have consistently delivered to the business plan of the Society while adopting new ways of working and managing ourselves through this major period of change.
‘We felt that it would be nice to ‘throw our hat into the ring’ for consideration as we have all worked so hard to raise the profile of IT and to build confidence not only in our service delivery but also our business-focussed project delivery as well.’
The winning IT Department of the Year will be announced in a glittering ceremony at the Battersea Park Events Arena, London on 10 November 2011.
From www.bcs.org: ‘The annual awards are the benchmark for excellence throughout the computer industry. They focus on the contribution of individuals, projects, organisations and technologies that have excelled in the use, development and deployment of IT in the past 12 months.’
Quote from BCS: David Clarke, Chief Executive Officer, BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, says: ‘Congratulations to the finalists; the competition to reach this stage of our prestigious Awards is tough. Our Awards are central to our mission to recognise the innovation and professionalism of those working in IT and I’m delighted that every year we have such a variety of high quality entries. They are an excellent reflection of the impact IT has on so many aspects of our information society and the potential IT has to transform business, society and our lives.’
Quote from Computing: Abigail Waraker, Editor of Computing comments: ‘I would like to congratulate the finalists. The UK IT Industry Awards are rigorously judged and to be announced as a finalist is a great achievement.’
