24th April 2012
Leading UK health & wellbeing mutual, Benenden Healthcare Society, is sponsoring the ‘Co-operative working to reduce health inequalities’ category of the MJ Awards 2012 and the finalists have now been announced.
MJ magazine is the online magazine for local authority business and the MJ Achievement Awards recognise the best individuals and teams working for local authorities today.
The category had a huge number of entries and all were carefully judged by our guest judges, Lorian Rein, Director of Services at Oakdale alongside Co-operatives UK Secretary General Ed Mayo.
The finalists are:
Birmingham City Council
Coventry City Council
East Staffordshire Borough Council
Pendle Borough Council
Paul Keenan, External Affair Manager at Benenden Healthcare, said: ‘With reduced budgets providing extra challenges for local authorities, the area of health inequality is one that takes on extra resonance.
‘Local authorities are rising to the challenge, using co-operative working to ensure that inequality of healthcare provision from one area to another is minimised.
‘This award will recognise the best examples of this co-operative working, and we look forward to reviewing the entries.’
Ed Mayo said: ‘One of the values of co-operative enterprise is one of equality and in a world of growing health and economic inequalities, this award is one that everyone with a care for health will want to learn from.’
The category has proven to be an incredibly popular category, with the awards as a whole receiving a record number of entries for 2012 – showcasing how local authorities have addressed the challenges of reduced budgets.
