Society takes bronze in staff development
5th January 2012
Work towards a key business plan aim has led to the
achievement of a Bronze Award for Benenden Healthcare Society in its annual ‘Investors in People’ assessment – a higher standard than in previous years.
‘Optimise organisational effectiveness’ has been a key driver for the health & wellbeing mutual organisation in its business plan over the past two years. This has included the implementation of a ‘Vision, Values and Goals’ framework, embedded at all levels of the business, as well as a new approach to analysing staff performance and development.
Gill Landon, HR and Development Director at Benenden Healthcare, said: ‘We’ve worked hard to improve our approach to reviewing staff performance and development of professional skills, so this is welcome recognition of those higher standards.
‘Since our adoption of a new values framework, it’s been a central part of the work of our HR and internal communications team to embed these firmly in the working ethos of the Society.’
Whilst the Society has regularly received the standard Investors in People accreditation, their new Bronze Award shows that Benenden Healthcare have met a more extensive assessment criteria that gives a much wider perspective on subjects - such as how involved staff feel in developing strategy and the business planning process, as well as views on management and leadership.
Gill Landon continued: ‘We want staff to feel they have a very real and important role to play in the working processes and management of the Society’s work.
‘Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved - across the organisation - we can proudly display our achievement as an investor in people. Now we look towards the Silver Award!’
The assessment process was undertaken in tandem with the assessment of the Society’s subsidiary and independent hospital, Benenden Hospital – who have also now achieved the Bronze Award. The assessment was carried out for the first time by specially trained Society and Hospital staff - working with an external assessor - which gave the opportunity to gain deeper understanding of how the organisation meets the Award’s criteria.
Investors in People is an external organisation that offers a business improvement tool designed to develop an organisation’s performance through its people.
