Benenden health set to be main sponsors for York Pride 2014
12th June 2014
For the second year running, benenden health will be sponsoring York Pride, the annual celebration for York and North Yorkshire’s LGBT community - with this year’s event looking set to be the biggest to date.
On Saturday 21st June the event will begin with a Pride Parade with the crowds carrying a 100m long rainbow flag through the ancient streets of York, followed by an afternoon of entertainment at the Knavesmire – including live acts, stalls and food. The event aims to promote equality and diversity and this year’s theme focuses on the “Freedom to be openly LGBT whatever age you are.”
Lawrence Christensen, Group Marketing Director at benenden health said: “Being main sponsor of York Pride makes sense for Benenden Health. As a mutual community of members, York Pride’s aim to promote diversity and equality is one which is integral to our organisation. In treating all of our members equally - accepting anyone, regardless of age or existing medical conditions – our own community also has at its heart fairness and inclusivity.
“We’ve enjoyed working closely with York Pride this year. January’s launch event was a great start in introducing this year’s theme of freedom and inclusivity and we were impressed by the forward-thinking drive and enthusiasm of all those involved in York Pride.
“Thanks much go to the York Pride organisers for their ongoing commitment. We hope everyone enjoys the event - our volunteers on the day look forward to welcoming everyone.”
Julian Rudd of York Pride said, ‘We are thrilled to be able to work with Benenden Health to deliver such an exciting line-up of entertainment while making sure that we continue the York Pride tradition of an important message – that in 2014 we want the freedom to be LGBT whatever age you are.
“With the backing of the City Council and many businesses and organisations in York and North Yorkshire, York Pride and Benenden Health are working throughout 2014 to make life – in schools, in work places and sheltered housing – better for local LGBT people.
“Whether you are gay or straight please come and join us for the York Pride Parade from the Minster on the 21st of June and send a message that York and North Yorkshire are tolerant places where people can enjoy their lives and participate fully in local life – regardless of whether they are lesbian, bisexual, gay or transgender’
This years line-up is headlined by Heather Peace, the TV star turned popstar who has been one of the headline acts at both Sydney and Manchester Prides. The supporting acts include Angie Brown, the top-selling dance music vocalist who has topped the US dance charts and who recently appeared on BBCs The Voice and Scottish boy-band Rewind who have supported Connor Maynard and Little Mix.
