Benenden Healthcare announced its charities of the year for 2012
15th February 2012
Benenden Healthcare Society, one of the UK’s leading health & wellbeing mutual organisations, today announced its charities of the year: Action for Children and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Staff at the Society’s Registered Office in York chose the two charities through a democratic process, which means the chosen charities will be the beneficiaries of any fundraising undertaken by Benenden Healthcare employees in 2012.
Neil Barnes, New Media & Community Relations Executive at Benenden Healthcare said: ‘In 2011, we introduced a new approach to employee fundraising that proved to be a huge improvement on fundraising efforts of previous years. The result was that our staff raised over £3000 in total for last year’s charities of the year, Alzheimer’s Society and St Leonard’s Hospice.
‘This year we’re aiming higher and we have already planned a number of key fundraising activities – especially during the summer where we’ll enter teams in major local events such as the York Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge and the Jane Tomlinson York 10K.
‘As a mutual organisation which exists to care for members, it’s a natural extension of our work to also help the wider community using the skills and enthusiasm of our staff.
‘Staff overwhelmingly voted for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as our local charity of the year. Yorkshire Air Ambulance provides a vital service to the region yet relies on substantial fundraising to keep it running – and we want to do our part.
‘Action for Children also proved popular with staff as our national charity of the year. It was nominated by a staff member who regularly volunteers with children and sees at first-hand how a charity such as Action for Children can make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children.’
Vicky Thaxter, Area Fundraiser, from Action for Children, said: ‘We are delighted to be chosen by Benenden Healthcare as one of their charities for 2012. The children and families that we are supporting need our help more than ever in these difficult times, so we welcome the opportunity to assist the staff with all their fundraising activities and look forward to the year ahead.'
David Hebden, Community Fundraiser, from Yorkshire Air Ambulance, said: ‘We would like to extend our grateful thanks to the staff at Benenden Healthcare for choosing the YAA are one of their Charities for the coming year. As an independent Charity, we rely solely on the generosity of groups, individuals and organisations such as Benenden Healthcare to help us raise the vital funds we need to keep both of our helicopters in the air and saving lives.'
