Benenden staff fundraise over £2000 for people affected by cancer
16th December 2015
Benenden has donated £2,128.93 to Macmillan Cancer Support to help fund Macmillan’s vital work supporting people with cancer and their families.
The money has been raised from employee-led fundraising, which included supermarket collections, dress down days, a coffee morning, handmade craft sales and taking part in the 2015 York Dragon Boat Challenge.
Nicola Taylor, Communications Co-ordinator at Benenden, said: “Macmillan Cancer Support were an overwhelmingly popular choice for staff in our internal election for Benenden’s charities of the year for 2015.
“The choice has really resonated amongst staff and can be seen in the number of volunteers we’ve had for the wide range of fundraising activities undertaken. Our volunteers have personal stories of themselves or their friends and family making use of Macmillan’s services, so they were only too happy to help support this important charity.”
Nicola continued: “This enthusiasm from staff has resulted in one of our most successful years for employee-led fundraising at Benenden. A grand total of £2,128.93 has been raised - nearly double the figure raised in 2014. Macmillan have been an absolute delight to work with over the year.”
“In fact, it’s been such a success and so popular with staff, we are pleased to announce we have decided to retain Macmillan as our national charity again for even more activities in 2016. I know that Benenden employees are looking forward to the year ahead and supporting Macmillan in their incredibly valuable work.”
In the last year, Macmillan has funded 1,343 Macmillan Grants totalling nearly £222,000 for local people in the area affected by cancer who needed urgent financial help. The grants mainly helped people who were struggling to pay for their fuel bills.
Macmillan’s fundraising manager for York, Hayley Cooke said: “We are so grateful for this donation and for the future support from staff at Benenden. We want to make sure no one faces cancer alone but we cannot do it without the amazing people who fundraise for us”
