Search begins for York’s community heroes
10th March 2015
Inspirational individuals and groups from across York are being invited to step into the spotlight with the opening of nominations for the York Community Pride Awards 2015 this week.
For the sixth consecutive year, York-based health and wellbeing provider Benenden will be main sponsors of the event, which celebrates the champions of community spirit in York. The awards, which run in partnership between The Press and City of York Council, aim to highlight the work of unsung community heroes in a variety of categories.
Lawrence Christensen, Group Marketing Director at Benenden said: “It’s great to be on board once again to sponsor these awards which really do highlight the incredible community work that is going on in and around the city.
“A strong community ethos is at the heart of our organisation which is why we’ve continued to support these awards and we are very much looking forward to hearing all the fantastic stories of those nominated. Every year we’ve been so impressed by the inspirational individuals and groups who put so much effort into making York a special place to live. These awards are a great opportunity to recognise their achievements and celebrate their stories.”
This year’s awards have a variety of categories for individuals and groups, looking to honour children and young people, parents, volunteers, fundraisers, public sector workers, teachers, schools, and community groups across the city. Three finalists from each of the categories will be invited to the awards ceremony at York Racecourse in October, when the winners will be revealed.
All nominees must live in, or contribute to life in, the City of York Council area – find out more about making a nomination.
