VIP visit to York City Football Club for competition winners from schools across York
28th August 2015
Thirteen competition winners from schools around York have been invited to a special visit to York City after taking part in a healthy eating initiative with club sponsors, Benenden.
The competition was part of an initiative which saw more than 1700 primary school children in York take part in interactive healthy eating and exercise workshops organised by Benenden alongside coaches from the York City FC Foundation.
The children were tasked with designing their own balanced healthy eating plate, with over one hundred and eighty entrants from schools across York taking part. Thirteen winners were chosen from schools around the city including Ralph Butterfield, Copmanthorpe, Elvington, Wigginton, Poppleton Road, Dringhouses and St Paul’s C of E Primary Schools.
The winners received a signed football as well as an opportunity to visit to the Club – including a chance to watch the York City team play against Yeovil Town in the second home game of the season. Players were also there to welcome the children to the grounds.
Nicola Taylor, Communications Co-ordinator at Benenden said: “We had really great feedback when we ran the sessions in the schools this year and it was great to see how much the children enjoyed taking par. The competition gave us a chance to test the children on what they’d learned in the session with the chance to win this great opportunity to visit the Club. We hope the winners enjoy the match and we are looking forward to continuing our work in schools over the next year!”
Paula Stainton, Foundation Manager of York City FC Foundation said, “It’s important that we use our role in the local community to provide good role models and help educate young people in all aspects of a healthy lifestyle. It’s worked really well this year across all the schools and we are delighted to welcome the competition winners to the Club for this special visit!”
