Claire Hetherington, Communications Coordinator at Benenden said, “We’ve had a great response to our last two charity matches – with lots of people coming along on the day to cheer on the teams and helping to raise money for some very worthy causes. It’s a great day for the family and we would encourage anyone in the local area to head over and watch the two teams fight it out.”
Paula Stainton, Foundation Manager of York City FC Foundation said, “We’ve had great success in the past with charity matches and we saw this as a real chance for local teams to get involved. We’re really hoping the local community comes out to support the two teams and help us raise lots of money for the chosen charities.”
Lee Thompson (Fit Reds project coordinator at Barnsley FC ) said “We are delighted to be invited by York City Community foundation to play in this fundraiser. Friendlies with other clubs are a big motivator for the men to maintain their fitness levels and also give us the chance to raise funds for our chosen charities. We will be cycling 63 miles from Barnsley to York the day before and hope they will take it steady on us.’’
