York City sponsors present new Club shirt to the Archbishop of York
9th January 2013
Today the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, was formally presented with a York City FC home shirt by the club’s sponsor, Benenden Healthcare Society, at Bishopthorpe Palace.
Benenden Healthcare – the York-based mutual health and wellbeing organisation – have been shirt sponsors since June this year whilst the Archbishop has been Patron of York City Football club since 2007.
Paul Keenan, Head of Communications for Benenden Healthcare said: “I am really excited to be able to present this shirt to the Archbishop as a token of Benenden Healthcare’s appreciation for his ongoing support to the Club and for his active promotion of fairness and equality in York.
“We know from the Archbishop’s media work that he is an active campaigner for businesses to take on more social responsibility and so, as a mutual whose members are at the heart of all we work for, we feel there is much common ground.”
“As part of York’s Fairness Commission, Dr Sentamu has been instrumental in the creation of bold ideas about how York as a city can address poverty and the negative effects of the current economic climate.”
Dr Sentamu said: “I am so proud to be Patron of York City. To see York back in the Football League is fantastic – and with the community stadium around the corner we’ve got a really exciting future ahead of us. Come on City!
“I want to thank Benenden for giving me this York City top with my name on the back – though I feel I may struggle to get a game for the Minstermen this season!”
