York heroes celebrated in shortlist for Community Pride Awards

Inspirational individuals and groups from across York have been recognised as stars of their local community in the shortlist for the York Community Pride Awards 2014.
For the fifth consecutive year, York-based mutual healthcare provider benenden health are main sponsors of the event, which celebrates the champions of community spirit in York. The awards, which run in partnership between The Press and City of York Council, aim to highlight the work of unsung community heroes in a variety of categories.
Claire Waines, Communications Co-ordinator at benenden health said: “The Community Pride Awards are very special to us as they really do highlight the fantastic work that is going on in the city, recognising those who really make a difference in their community.
“As a mutual, community is at the heart of our ethos at benenden health and so we’re proud to be active supporters of these awards which recognise and celebrate the achievements of community-minded people and groups in our local region.
“This year’s finalists are all truly inspirational and their stories really demonstrate the power of community spirit in York. The finalists do so much to make a difference in the lives of others and it’s great that their hard work can be rewarded in this way.
“We are very much looking forward to the awards ceremony next month and wish all the finalists the best of luck.’
Finalists have been chosen in a variety of categories which celebrate the work of volunteers, charities, community organisations, schools and individuals in York. The winners will be announced in a ceremony at York Racecourse on 16th October 2014.
