York’s community champions celebrated in York Community Pride Awards
17th October 2014
Winners were announced last night (16th Oct) at the York Community Pride Awards - with inspirational individuals and groups across the city being applauded for their community spirit.
For the fifth consecutive year, York-based mutual healthcare provider, benenden health, were main sponsors of this event, that celebrates the stars of the York community. The awards, which are run in partnership between The Press and City of York Council, were announced at a gala dinner at York Racecourse.
Andrew Radi, Group Chief Information Officer & IT Director, who represented Benenden Health on the night, said: “This year we saw some truly inspirational stories of people who are actively making a difference in their local communities. The standard of all those groups and individuals who have participated in this year’s Community Pride Awards has been particularly outstanding and everyone should be very proud of what they have achieved.
“A strong community ethos is at the heart of our own organisation and we are proud to support this celebration of local community heroes. It’s incredible to see just how much excellent work goes on in our local community and how much of a difference this can make to the lives of others. On behalf of benenden health I’d like to congratulate all nominees, finalists and winners!”
Winners were chosen in 13 categories which celebrate the work of individuals, charities, community organisations and schools across York – including Volunteer of the Year, Sporting Hero and Best Community Project.
