York's unsung heroes celebrated in shortlist for Community Pride Awards

Inspirational individuals and groups from across York have been commended as stars of their local community in the shortlist for the York Community Pride Awards 2013.
For the fourth consecutive year, York-based healthcare provider benenden health are main sponsors of the event, which celebrates the champions of community spirit in the local York region. Running in partnership between The Press and City of York Council, the awards recognise the work of individuals and groups in a variety of categories
Lawrence Christensen, Marketing Director at benenden health said: “This is the flagship event in our community relations calendar and one which we really look forward to being involved in each year.
“The stories of all the finalists this year are truly inspirational and really demonstrate the power of community spirit in the city. There is so much that we can learn from these individuals who are active in their community day in and day out and who help to really make a difference to those around them.
“As a mutual, community is at the heart of our ethos at benenden health and so we are active supporters of these awards which recognize and celebrate the achievements of community-minded people and groups in our local region.
“We’ve been impressed by the standard of entries this year and are really looking forward to the awards ceremony next month. We wish all finalists the best of luck.’
Finalists have been chosen in 13 categories which celebrate the work of charities, community organisations, schools and individuals in York. Winners will be announced in a ceremony at York Racecourse on Thursday October 17th.
