Benenden, which is based at Holgate Park and employs more than 200 people in the city, has been shortlisted as Co-operative of the Year in the prestigious UK-wide Co-operative Awards 2012,
Marc Bell, Marketing & Business Strategy Director said:
“Co-ops and mutuals play a significant part in keeping the UK economy moving and this shortlisting is a terrific achievement in what has been a momentous year for Benenden Healthcare. We are delighted to have made it to the last three in these awards which recognise the significant impact of co-operatives and mutuals across the country.
Benenden has been shortlisted alongside Midcounties Co-operative and the Renewable Energy Co-operative in the ‘Co-operative of the Year’ category; all of the businesses had to demonstrate overall excellence in relation to performance on all aspects of running a successful co-operative or mutual.
Marc Bell continued: “Mutuality is at the heart of all that we do at Benenden Healthcare and our shortlisting reflects the exacting standards we have in place to ensure that, even in depressing economic times, it is perfectly possible to run a successful and growing business.”
Now in their fourth year, the awards celebrate outstanding contributions to the co-operative economy, recognising excellence, innovation and ethics of business and individuals across the diverse co-operative movement.
Ed Mayo, Secretary General of Co-operatives UK, said:
“The Co-operative Awards 2012 are a chance to celebrate co-operatives businesses during the UN International Year of Co-operatives, with co-operative leaders from around the world.
“Co-operatives UK is proud to have members in all sectors of the economy which are proving their sustainability, innovation and resilience every day in a tough economic climate.”
The winners of the awards will be announced on 31 October at the International Dinner of Co-operatives United, the culminating event of the International Year of Co-operatives which takes place in Manchester.
