What is a health assessment?

A health assessment is a series of tests and examinations designed to highlight possible health concerns in the early stages. Even if you’re not feeling unwell, some conditions like high blood pressure or high cholesterol may have no symptoms but could dramatically affect your quality of life in the future. A health assessment can help identify warning signs of hereditary and hidden illnesses and can provide tests that aren't normally available on the NHS unless you're symptomatic. It's an excellent opportunity to help you gain a better understanding of your current state of health and how you can work towards improving it.

Important Information Please note, the Benenden Ultimate health assessment is only available for ages 18-79, due to the nature of the specific tests included within it. All other assessment levels are available to everyone aged 18 - 89. However, if you are over 79, certain tests may be modified to be ‘age appropriate’. This is because we do not want to cause any unnecessary worry in the individuals we screen, as our screenings focus on the prevention of illnesses and some tests are not medically appropriate for those over 79.

Home test kits are currently only available to purchase online

We've answered the most common queries below, but if you need to know anything not answered here you can call our team on 0800 652 2209 who will be happy to help you.

Why don’t you carry out your health checks in hospitals?

Bluecrest uses the very latest mobile screening equipment at their network of over 2,000 hotel conference centres across the UK and Ireland. The venues have been chosen based on their convenient locations, comfortable surroundings, accessibility, parking and transport links.  All venues are regularly quality checked by their Events team and Screening Specialists to ensure they meet their high standards and provide relaxed, friendly, private and comfortable surroundings.

Are there any age limits?

The Benenden Ultimate health assessment is only available for ages 18-79, due to the nature of the specific tests included within it.

All other assessment levels are available to everyone aged 18 - 89. However, if you are over 79, certain tests may be modified to be age appropriate. This is because we do not want to cause any unnecessary worry in the individuals we screen, as our screenings focus on the prevention of illnesses and some tests are not medically appropriate for those over 79.

Do I need to fast before my appointment?

Bluecrest have upgraded their range of tests so you can continue to eat and drink normally before your screening takes place, but full preparation instructions will be provided in writing when you book your appointment.

Who will my appointment be with?

Bluecrest’s friendly Health Screening Specialists are fully trained in Phlebotomy (blood-taking) and have varying backgrounds in the health and wellbeing sector. Some are trained Nurses, whilst others hold Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in subjects including Sports Science, Fitness, Nutrition, Dietetics, Physiology and Physiotherapy.

Will I have to get undressed during my appointment?

No, the health checks are all non-invasive, and most just require a couple of small blood samples and a few key body measurements. If your package includes a body composition scan, you will be asked to take off your shoes and socks though, but full preparation instructions will be provided when you book your appointment.

How long will my appointment take?

Depending on the tests or package you’ve chosen, your appointment will take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes.

Who processes my results?

Your blood samples and other readings will be analysed by the largest independent laboratory in the UK, The Doctors Laboratory (TDL). TDL are fully accredited experts with over 30 years’ experience in laboratory and cardiology services. Once TDL have analysed your samples and readings, your test results are sent securely to Bluecrest’s in-house Results team who compile your personalised Results Report.

What happens if my results show a serious problem?

If there are any critical results discovered by TDL, you will be contacted immediately, so you won’t need to wait for your full results report to arrive to take appropriate action.

Will I be able to discuss my results with a GP?

All packages come with access to a free 24/7 GP helpline which you can use for a full year after your appointment, whether you have a specific query about one of your test results or you just need some general health advice. Your Results Report also includes a handy one-page GP summary which you can share with your own GP should you wish. Some of our premium packages also include a Private GP Consultation which takes place via phone or webcam once you’ve received your Results Report so you can go through your results in detail.

I can no longer attend my appointment, what should I do?

Please contact Bluecrest as soon as possible on 0800 652 2209 so that they can allocate your appointment to another customer. Your appointment van be rearranged for another date and time at no extra cost.

Can I get these tests free on the NHS?

The NHS doesn’t normally offer tests unless you display symptoms. The NHS does have a screening programme in place to screen for certain illnesses in people of certain ages. However, the NHS does not normally offer comprehensive screening with a detailed personalised results report.

What is a virtual appointment?

A virtual appointment is your one-to-one online discussion with one of Bluecrest’s friendly health coaches. We know that collecting your own sample can sometimes be a little difficult, so we can support you to ensure a safe and effective sample is taken. Once you have booked your virtual appointment, on the day of your appointment you'll receive an email with a Microsoft Teams link inviting you to talk to your health coach who will guide you through your self-collection test.

How do I set up Microsoft Teams?
  • Click the ‘Join Microsoft Teams Meeting’ link within your virtual appointment booking confirmation email.

  • You'll then be asked whether you would like to ‘Download the Windows app’ or ‘Join on the web instead’. Unless you already have the app, we suggest joining on the web using either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Your browser may ask if it's okay for Teams to use your mic and camera, please ensure you allow it so you'll be able to be seen and heard by your health coach.

  • When you're ready, press ‘Join now’ which will bring you into the meeting lobby and your health coach will then accept you into the video call.

Do I have to have a virtual appointment?

A virtual appointment is not a requirement however we recommend booking one as it's always helpful having a health coach ready to answer any questions you may have about collecting your samples effectively. Please note, full instructions will be included in your kit.

How long will my virtual appointment take?

Your virtual appointment will take approximately 15 minutes.

I would like to rearrange my virtual appointment, what should I do?

Please contact Bluecrest as soon as possible on 0800 652 2209 so that they can allocate your appointment to another customer. Your appointment can be rearranged for another date and time at no extra cost.

When do I send my samples?

Your samples should be posted the same day and if not possible the next morning. This is to ensure your blood sample does not haemolyse before it reaches the lab.

Is postage free?

Yes, your kit will contain a pre-paid postage label.

Who processes my samples and results?

Your blood samples and other readings will be analysed by the largest independent laboratory in the UK, The Doctors Laboratory (TDL). TDL are fully accredited experts with over 30 years’ experience in laboratory and cardiology services. Once TDL have analysed your samples and readings, your test results are sent securely to Bluecrest’s in-house Results team who compile your results and notify you when they are available to view online on MyWellness.
