Health Assessments

Your Prevention Plus screening package includes blood tests for liver and kidney function, full lipid panel and check for preventable diabetes which includes both good and bad cholesterol readings. You'll also receive a heart disease and stroke risk assessment as well as a 12-point biometric body assessment which includes body fat, hydration levels, metabolic age, bone mass and more.

In addition to the Prevention Plus checks, you'll also receive a lung function test and a resting ECG test which is important for understanding heart rhythm and identifying irregularities.

The Benenden Core assessment includes all the tests and checks covered in the Benenden Active assessments. Plus, insight into the composition of your blood and immune system with readings such as volume of red and white blood cells, haemoglobin content and platelet counts.

In addition to the Benenden Core checks, Benenden Premier also includes an advanced diabetes (HbA1c) test. Plus, a thyroid function test which helps identify an over or underactive thyroid

The ultimate health MOT. This assessment includes all of the Premier checks as well as tests for rheumatoid arthritis and dementia risk, a lipoprotein (a) test which assesses your heart attack and stroke risk, as well as a urine analysis. The urine analysis involves taking a small urine sample from the comfort of your own home.

Yes. Your results are confidential and will only be provided to you. These will be available within 8 days online, and within 21 days in the post.

Bluecrest Wellness uses the very latest mobile health check equipment at their network of 400 locations and 10,000 clinics across the UK and Ireland. The venues have been chosen based on their convenient locations, comfortable surroundings, parking and transport links. All venues are regularly checked by their Events team and Certified Healthcare Professionals to ensure they meet high standards. 

The Benenden Ultimate Health Assessment is only available for ages 18-79, due to the nature of the specific tests included within it. All other assessment levels are available to everyone aged 18-88. However, if you are over 79, certain tests may be modified to be ‘age appropriate’. This is because we don't want to cause any unnecessary worry in the individuals we screen, as our screenings focus on the prevention of illnesses and some tests are not medically appropriate for those over 79.

We are unable to carry out a health assessment if you are pregnant. There are significant physical changes during pregnancy, and results from a health assessment would not be accurate. If you have any health concerns while pregnant, please contact your GP or midwife.

If you have recently given birth and if you are breast-feeding you can have a health assessment, but you will need to wait until three months after giving birth to attend an assessment.

Bluecrest Wellness advise around 20 to 40 minutes for your health check depending on the package selected, and to arrive 10 minutes before the appointment start time.

You can continue to eat and drink as normal before the health assessment and continue to take any prescribed medication. Bluecrest Wellness do advise you to avoid any vitamins or supplements as these can affect some results.

Bluecrest Wellness would always recommend that you drink plenty of water as this helps maintain strong blood circulation, which makes it easier for the Health Assessment Specialist to take a blood sample.

For health and safety reasons, please don't bring children with you to your health check. If you'd like to bring a friend or family member to accompany you, or you'd like a chaperone, please call 0800 652 2209 to arrange this.

You should wear loose and non-restrictive clothing. This allows the Health Assessment Specialist easy access to your arms and lower legs. You will not be required to remove any clothing during the appointment. However shoes and socks may require removal in order to undertake a Biometric scan.

The NHS doesn’t normally offer tests unless you display symptoms. The NHS does have screening programmes in place for certain illnesses in certain age groups, however the NHS doesn’t normally offer comprehensive screening with a personalised results report.

If you are a Benenden Health member, you have access to the 24/7 GP Helpline, to discuss any general health concerns.

Please be aware, your results will not be shared with the GP during this process and specific queries around your results may not be possible.

If you have any serious concerns or worries, you should contact your local GP.

As a duty of care, Bluecrest Wellness will contact any individual within 48 hours, where a test or tests show a critical reading.

A ‘red flag’ result is not necessarily an indicator of a critical result and will be accompanied by relevant lifestyle and dietary advice to reduce the associated risks.

If you are concerned about any of your results you should discuss these with a GP. Please note, your results are not directly provided to your GP.

Your blood samples and other readings will be analysed by Eurofins UK, one of the leading laboratories in the UK. Once they have analysed your samples and readings, your test results are sent securely to our in-house Results team who compile your personalised Results Report.

Your appointment will be with a friendly Health Assessment Specialist who is fully trained in Phlebotomy (blood-taking). Whilst a Doctor or Nurse won’t be seen during your visit, rest assured that Health Assessment Specialists undergo a comprehensive training programme, supervisions and continuing professional development to ensure they consistently deliver excellence in care and service delivery. Our health assessments are non-diagnostic, so frontline team members are not clinical staff - they do not provide medical advice or treatment. Results interpretation and medical advice is reserved for potential follow-up with a suitably qualified medical professional to inform action, further investigation and next steps, if necessary.

Upon clinical review, it has been identified when directly comparing the two tests, lipoprotein (a) is a far more accurate predictor of heart disease risk than PLAC. Unlike the PLAC test, the levels of lipoprotein (a) in your blood are a reliable indicator of genetic risk for heart disease, as they are directly inherited from your family. This means that lipoprotein (a) can help identify people who are at higher risk of heart disease, even if they lead a healthy lifestyle and have no other risk factors. Approximately 1 in 5 people have moderate-to-high lipoprotein (a) levels and it's recommended to get your levels checked at least once in your lifetime.

A virtual appointment is a one-to-one online session with a friendly health coach. Bluecrest Wellness understands that collecting your own blood sample can sometimes be daunting, so they provide a health coach to ensure that you are safe, and an effective sample is taken.

Once you have booked your virtual appointment, 24 hours prior to the appointment you will receive an email with a Microsoft Teams link, inviting you to your appointment with a health coach who will support you through the self-collection test.

Yes. Bluecrest Wellness recommend utilising the virtual appointment as it’s always helpful having a health coach ready to answer any questions you may have. They will ensure that you are safe throughout the appointment and provide support with collecting your samples effectively. 

• Click the ‘Join Microsoft Teams Meeting’ link within your virtual appointment booking confirmation email.

• You'll then be asked whether you would like to ‘Download the Windows app’ or ‘Join on the web instead’. Unless you already have the app, we suggest joining on the web using either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Your browser may ask if it's okay for Teams to use your mic and camera, please ensure you allow it so you'll be able to be seen and heard by your health coach.

• When you're ready, press ‘Join now’ which will bring you into the meeting lobby and your health coach will then accept you into the video call.

Bluecrest Wellness advise around 30 minutes for your virtual health check, and to arrive 5 minutes before the appointment start time.

Once you have completed your appointment, the health coach will ask you to post your samples the same day, and if that’s not possible the next morning. This is to ensure that the blood sample does not degrade before it reaches their UKAS accredited laboratory. 

Yes, all Home Test Kits contain a pre-paid postage label, so there is no additional cost to you.
