The name given to the proposal for an entirely new democratic structure, improving the process through which Benenden Health members have their say.

A branch Working Group has spent over two years researching and debating possible changes that make it easier for you – our members – to get involved in what we do.

Now the proposal has been put forward, we’re able to share more about the recommendations with you. This is the first step towards eventually proposing a formal set of rule changes at a future Conference.

For the programme to be introduced it must be voted on by the majority of delegates at a Special Conference in September 2022 under our current process.

If the proposed changes are agreed, the new Democracy for Tomorrow structure would be effective from January 2023. We expect it to take a full year for many of the changes to be put in place and everything to be finalised by January 2024.

Democracy for Tomorrow will benefit you by:

• Giving you a stronger voice; every Benenden Health member can vote via Direct Member Voting so everyone can have a say on key decisions.

• Introducing more ways for you to get involved that fit around your lifestyle; the current branch structure will be replaced with member communities where you can share views and ideas in-person or online at a time that suits you.

• Making it easier and quicker for you to suggest ideas that positively influence our health and wellbeing services; a new Member Council will quickly assess and progress any ideas you have for improving the service.

We want to gather your thoughts to make sure we create a democratic structure that’s fit for you. We’ll be taking the proposal to a Conference later this year and will be holding special member meetings where you can influence how your delegates vote on the future of our democracy.
