Common symptoms of chronic fatigue

If you've started to notice some of the symptoms we've listed below, we may be able to help.


  • "I can’t do this"
  • "I don’t understand why I am so tired all the time"
  • "I have no energy"
  • "I can’t stand the pain"
  • "I can’t think properly"
  • "I can’t concentrate on this"
  • Aching muscles and body pains
  • Disruption to your sleep routine
  • Disruption to your eating pattern
  • You're unable to concentrate
  • You're struggling to complete daily routine tasks
  • You're avoiding situations
  • You're verbally or physically aggressive
  • You're becoming tearful/emotional
  • Your heart's pounding in your chest
  • A stomach-churning sensation
  • Overly/extremely tired
  • Low in mood
  • Irritable
  • Anxious

Possible causes of chronic fatigue

  • The cause of chronic fatigue is unknown. Research has explored biological and psychological factors that could cause chronic fatigue
  • Pressure – you may be under pressure at home or work, feel trapped or unable to problem solve certain issues
  • Stressful life events – these can be unwelcome or traumatic, such as being bullied at work, getting divorced, or being attacked/abused
