Stress has become a real problem for the modern world, affecting individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Christmas in particular is a time when the pressure of the festive period takes its toll on many.

UK 56th in the world...
According to Bloomberg numbers, the UK is ranked 56th when it comes to stress levels, with a total score of 24.6. Factors such as the unemployment rate are cited for causing stress. The UK does fare a lot better than many other countries however.
Nigeria came out top with a total score of 70.1, which is more than double that of the UK. Nigeria has an unemployment rate of 23.9% and an annual homicide rate of 12.2 per 100,000. This still pales in comparison to South Africa, where the homicide rate is 31.8 per 100,000.
The UK beat other European countries including Spain, Italy and Poland in the stress stakes. The overall scores for these countries stand at 33.1, 30.4 and 32.8 respectively. Scandinavian countries were amongst the least stressed, with Norway having the lowest total score at 5.4 – almost 5 times less that of the UK.
Whether you’re feeling the pressures of the season or not, it’s worth remembering this time of year can affect overall stress levels, with Christmas being renowned for causing excess stress.
