Drinking less could help you lose weight and sleep better, as well as benefit your workplace: did you know that alcohol is estimated to cost the economy around £21 billion each year? This amounts to an average of 17 million days lost, per year, both in absenteeism and productivity. But when post-work drinks can be such a popular way to bond with your team, what can you replace them with?

Crazy golf

Whether playing indoors or outdoors, during the day or in the evening, crazy golf can be a fun-filled way to spend time with your colleagues. It doesn’t matter whether your swing is perfect, either. Chasing after rogue golf balls is all part of the fun.

Pub quiz

Steering clear of alcohol doesn’t have to mean steering clear of the pub. Grab a soft drink and a cosy table to take part in a pub quiz. Many pub quizzers see crafting a witty team name as fun enough, and once you’re deep in whispered conversation about the capitals of the world and Oscar-winning films, alcohol may not even enter your mind.

After a long week at work, spending Friday night in the company of your favourite colleagues and some indulgent food could do wonders for your stress levels. Pick out a film, too, and may find that it won’t be long before you feel the restorative effects of alcohol-free downtime.

A sporting challenge

What could be better for team bonding than a rush of adrenaline? Committing to a sporting challenge could do a world of good for team spirit, and could even offer an extra incentive to stay away from your tipple of choice. Group classes

From yoga classes to life drawing classes, there are countless group activities you could enjoy on a weekly basis, no matter what your tastes. Why not try replacing your usual post-work drinks with something a little different? Settle on something you’ll all enjoy, and a quick internet search can reveal a wealth of venues.

For many, bowling is seen as an old favourite that never loses its charm. Indulging your sense of fun while encouraging healthy competition, you could easily while away a whole evening without touching a drop of alcohol.
