Learning and Development

We're so committed to developing our people that it's one of our core competencies.

We have a team of people who are passionate about developing our colleagues with the right knowledge, skills and behaviours to be at their best in their role and to reach their aspirations.

All new colleagues are invited to our Welcome Induction. This provides an opportunity to understand the key information they need to work at Benenden Health and it’s a great opportunity to meet other colleagues.

Every colleague joining our non-operational areas will have a bespoke induction plan developed in collaboration with their line manager.

Colleagues joining our operational areas, will enjoy our best-in-class induction training. Our experienced Operational Trainer Coaches will be at their disposal to ensure they're fully equipped to provide our award-winning customer and member experience.

We offer a variety of career development tools. A colleague favourite is our Career Hub providing resources to develop technical, business and career skills. It can help define aspirations and strengths, what colleagues enjoy doing and what may be getting in the way of their development.

In addition, our development conversations ensure colleagues are developing into their role and their careers. We have a variety of opportunities to help with development too:

  • Golden Hours
Every colleague receives one hour per month dedicated to their career development. Colleagues use this to shadow other departments, access the Career Hub or complete their own learner-led activity.

  • Junior Board
A development opportunity that anyone below Senior Leadership can apply for. Our Junior Board are developed to lead strategic initiatives and receive dedicated development and mentorship from our Senior Leadership Team.

  • Coaching and Mentoring Scheme
We have several qualified coaches who offer workplace coaching to help colleagues grow and develop their skills. We also have a group of trained mentors who we match colleagues with to share their knowledge and experience.

  • Development Matrix
Our Development Matrix sets out a defined progression pathway for our Operations teams, with financial recognition for advisors who are deemed competent and are carrying out additional responsibilities outside of their role profile. This pathway provides new development opportunities for advisors to learn and progress within their current roles.

  • Benenden University
We've partnered with a number of Universities to offer degree apprenticeship programmes for colleagues to undertake such as a Chartered Management Degree or an Executive Master of Business Admin (MBA).

We encourage personal development and professional fees are reimbursed where directly related to colleague learning and development.

We understand that the relationship colleagues have with their manager has a big impact on their engagement, performance, development and wellbeing. That’s why we invest heavily in developing our managers. We have leadership development programmes from aspirational managers to Senior Leader level.
