Benenden ‘Raises the Rainbow’ in support of York Pride
17th June 2015
For a third year, health and wellbeing provider Benenden will be main sponsor of York Pride - the annual celebration for York and North Yorkshire’s LGBT community. In support of this year’s ‘Raise the Rainbow’ theme, staff from Benenden will be decking themselves out in rainbow colours and decorating their offices in Holgate Park Drive in a colourful rainbow theme.
This year, York Pride are encouraging people around the city to ‘Raise the Rainbow’ and visibly show support for the LGBT community – with the aim of making York a ‘City of rainbows’ in the run-up to the Pride event itself on 20th June.
Paul Keenan Head of Communications at Benenden said: “We’ve been main sponsor of York Pride now for a number of years and it’s a great organisation to be involved with. Their aim to promote diversity and equality is one which is integral to us here at Benenden, with our focus on fairness and inclusivity.
“This year’s ‘Raise the Rainbow’ theme is an ideal way for local organisations and businesses to visually show their support for the LBGT community in York and North Yorkshire. Staff at Benenden have been really keen to get involved and by raising our own rainbow, we are showing our commitment to promoting diversity and equality as an organisation in a very visible way. “
“We’d like to encourage others around the city to ‘Raise their Rainbow’ and show their support in the run-up to and during the event on Saturday 20th June.”
Greg Stephenson, Chair of York Pride said, ‘Benenden are our main sponsor and the organisation that has helped York Pride to become a major event in York’s calendar. As we celebrate the progress that is being made – with rainbow flags at employers, on our public buildings and in our high streets - it is wonderful that so many of Benenden’s staff will join in and stand alongside us’
On Saturday 20th June (from 11-30am at York Minster), the York Pride event will begin with a parade - including a 50m long rainbow flag - through the streets of York. This will then be followed by an afternoon of entertainment at the Knavesmire, including live acts and a variety of stalls.
