Benenden support helps send talented swimmers to international training camp
28th August 2015
Health & wellbeing provider, Benenden, have offered funding to assist talented swimmers from the York City Baths Club National Squad with the cost of attending a training camp in Calella, Northern Spain.
Sixteen of the Club’s talented and committed swimmers from the National Squad, who train under the Club’s Head Coach Mark Sheldrick, will be attending the swimming camp taking place at the end of August.
Benenden, whose logo will take pride of place on the official shirts that the swimmers will wear at competitions throughout the season, also provided comprehensive travel insurance for those attending - which will cover any medical expenses, loss or damage to personal belongings and baggage.
Chris Hogg, organiser of the YCBC swim camp said, “This camp is a way of enabling our young swimmers to review and set new goals, providing a perfect springboard for the new season. It also helps to strengthen the team bond, fostering positive relationships between swimmers and their coaches.
“It is fantastic to have the support of a local organisation like Benenden helping with the trip – keeping costs down has been crucial for us to ensure that as many swimmers as possible could attend and their support with the travel insurance and the shirt sponsorship has been invaluable.”
The swim camp will take place between August 29th and Saturday 5th Sept, with the team having access to an Olympic 50 metre outdoor pool where they’ll partake in a series of swim coaching sessions designed to develop their skills for the coming season.
Nicola Taylor, Communications Co-ordinator at Benenden said, “Sports stars of the future all begin at a grassroots level, but the costs involved can be prohibitive. Therefore we have made a point of working with several grassroots sports teams, supporting them where possible, and this seemed like another great opportunity to encourage participation regardless of cost.
“Benenden is proud to support an excellent initiative to give the swimmers the chance to develop their skills and work closely with their teammates. We hope the squad have a great time in Spain!”
