York City legends kick off charity match in Harrogate

A series of charity matches organised by the York City Football Club Foundation - with sponsor Benenden and featuring York City legends - continues on Sunday 17th May with a game at Harrogate Railway Athletics ground, Station View, Starbeck, Harrogate.
The second in a series of fixtures, this match will see the charity squad play against the Harrogate Railway team– offering local Harrogate residents the opportunity to attend and cheer the teams on! The cost to attend is £3 per adult and £1 for under 12s, to be paid upon entry to the match, kicking off at 3pm.
The York City and Benenden charity squad will be made up of former players, academy and foundation coaches, and Benenden staff members. The squad is yet to be announced, but included Richard Cresswell, Jonathon Greening, Andy McMillan, Iain Dunn, Mark Ford & Danial Parker to name but a few familiar faces, and was ably managed by John Stockton.
The matches will be played in aid of Benenden’s charities of the year, Macmillan & St Leonard’s Hospice and York City Foundation’s charity, the Harrogate-bases Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Claire Hetherington, Communications Coordinator at Benenden said, “Our last charity match in York was a great success and this paved the way for further matches in the region. It’s a great opportunity to help raise money for a variety of worthy causes, but also a fun day for all the family to come along and watch. We are really looking forward to it and encourage anyone in the local area to head over and watch the two teams fight it out.”
Paula Stainton, Foundation Manager of York City FC Foundation said, “We’ve had great success in the past with charity matches and we saw this as a real chance for local teams to get involved. We’re really hoping the local community comes out to support the two teams and help us raise lots of money for the chosen charities.”
Billy Miller, Manager of Harrogate Railway Athletic FC said,‘’This is a great opportunity to get involved with York City Football FC Foundation to support some fantastic charities. York City are well supported in Harrogate and we would welcome the opportunity for the community to come together for what I am sure will be a great day out’’.
