Glass slipper left outside York Theatre Royal on opening weekend of panto
12th December 2016
As part of Make it York’s Ice Trail on the weekend of 10th and 11th December, an ice sculpture of Cinderella’s glass slipper has been located outside the York Theatre Royal.
The theatre’s pantomime production of Cinderella commenced Thursday 8th December and runs until the 28th January. It is being sponsored by York-based healthcare provider Benenden, who have also arranged for placement of the ice sculpture.
Long-serving panto dame and writer of this year’s production, Berwick Kaler was on hand on Saturday 10th December to welcome ice trail travellers to the sculpture.
Paul Keenan, Head of Communications at Benenden, said: “When we heard that Make it York had organised this year’s ice trail on the same weekend as the opening of York Theatre Royal’s panto, we felt it was a great opportunity to put a bit of an extraordinary face on the production.
“The ice trail will attract so many visitors across 35 locations around the city, so we’re proud to be supporting the theatre along the way. I hope that visitors get a great look at the giant glass slipper before it melts away!”
