Benenden Healthcare supports International Year of Co-operatives 2012
3rd January 2012
As a leading UK health & wellbeing mutual organisation, Benenden Healthcare Society is supporting the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives 2012.
The International Year of Co-operatives is a year aimed at raising the profile of a co-operative/mutual approach to business and the benefits it brings to millions around the world. The highlight of the year will be International Co-operatives Day 2012 - celebrated on 7 July.
Marc Bell, Marketing & Business Strategy Director at Benenden Healthcare, said: ‘Mutuals and co-operatives have been making a comeback for a few years now and we could well be on the cusp of a new golden age for the sector. We’re really pleased to be able to recognise this by joining in celebrations to promote the International Year of Co-operatives and the work of co-operative enterprises across the world.’
The global campaign is being co-ordinated by the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA), the global voice of co-operatives, and they aim to show how ‘co-operative enterprises build a better world’.
The UK campaign is being spearheaded by Co-operatives UK – and Benenden Healthcare will be joining them as a founder sponsor to play a key role in helping shape the UK programme of events for the year. The Society will also once again be a sponsor of Co-operatives Fortnight (23 June – 8 July 2012).
Marc Bell said: ‘Benenden Healthcare’s mutual model has been operating for over 100 years since the formation of an idea to help ordinary people with their healthcare needs - in an age before the creation of the NHS. That mutual model has served us well and continues to serve our membership of over 900,000 people across the UK.’
