Benenden Healthcare welcomes Government support for the creation of mutuals
25th October 2010
Benenden Healthcare Society welcomes the announcement by Cabinet Minister Francis Maude of a new £10m fund aimed at enabling public sector workers to create mutuals that will take over the running of services they provide.
As a long-standing mutual formed in 1905 by Post Office worker Charles Garland, the Society strongly believes in co-operative values and their relevance in today’s society.
Chief Executive Ken Hesketh said: ‘We’re delighted that the Government aims to promote mutualism by supporting public sector workers who wish to own and operate new mutual organisations delivering public services.
‘As a mutual seeking active partnerships with other like-minded organisations, Benenden Healthcare would be happy to use its experience to support these initiatives.’
